Obtaining divorce records is really quite an easy task though many individuals don’t understand as much. The records of marriages and divorces are publicly available and are held by the department in charge of vital records in whichever county applies. However, between one county in the next there may be varying amounts of access to these records and the methods by which they are researched can be more or less convenient depending upon the technological development of the county in question. If one cannot perform this task themselves, there are other ways to have the work done.
Divorce records, in many cases, are fully searchable over the Internet. There will be some differences in the detail of the records obtained through this method. In some cases, the records obtained may be no more than a summary and it will be necessary to contact the county agency responsible for housing those records and to request a full copy to obtain any meaningful data. In most cases, the process of requesting a full record is not terribly difficult though it may take a considerable amount of time before the county replies with either a request for more information or the desired records.
If one does not have complete information on the subject of the research, it may be a bit more difficult to obtain any relevant divorce records. In these cases, it may be advisable to contract a third-party to perform the search. There are numerous agencies which perform these searches for a fee. Many of them are available online and some of their websites allow individuals to search summaries of records and to simply request the full record for a fee. Depending upon where the records are stored, it may take as long as a couple of weeks to receive the full copy.
