Why Would I Check the Marital Status of a New Partner?

Checking the marital status of a new significant other does seem a bit seedy, in many regards but, unfortunately, not all individuals are honest and, sometimes, one has to guard their interests. There are times when one gets “that feeling” that indicates that someone is being less than honest with them and that there’s more to the person than is being revealed. To that end, there are several different ways in which one can investigate an individual to find out if they’re being on the level before one gets too involved.

One can check the marital status of most individuals by checking with the agency responsible for holding vital records in that person’s county of residence. Provided the person has been straightforward about their name and other information about themselves, it should be fairly easy to see if they’re presently married, have been divorced and so forth. One must make certain, however, that they have the right person’s records before jumping to any conclusions! In any populated area, it is very likely the case that several people have the same name and one would not want to be too hasty.

Before determining whether a suspicion raised by checking the marital status of an individual is merited or just simple paranoia, keep a few things in mind. An individual may be legally married and never have been served their divorce papers due to having moved out of state. Individuals who have lived in other nations may also be divorced but never have received their decree for similar reasons. While one can check to see whether an individual is married or not, remember that public records provide information but it takes interaction with the person to obtain useful insight into their situation.
